Dear Millersburg Area Community, The Millersburg Area School District will have an early dismissal on Monday, April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse. Elementary students will be dismissed beginning at approximately 12:45pm. MS/HS High students will begin dismissal at 1pm. As with any typical weather-related early dismissals, students will receive breakfast and lunch at school prior to dismissal. The decision to dismiss early has been made after much review of available information and consideration of how-to best support student safety. The timing of the eclipse is a key factor. The eclipse will occur during school hours and will overlap with student dismissal. Due to safety concerns with dismissal occurring during the eclipse, we will dismiss early. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal. Below are a few links to additional information related to the eclipse and eclipse safety: https://science.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/eng-2024-eclipse-safety-sheet.pdf https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/safety/ https://nso.edu/for-public/eclipse-safety/ https://www.aao.org/eye-health/tips-prevention/solar-eclipse-eye-safety https://www.aao.org/eye-health/tips-prevention/safe-solar-eclipse-viewing-infographic https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso-certification https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters https://aas.org/press/american-astronomical-society-offers-warnings-reassurances-eclipse-glasses We appreciate your understanding as we make this adjustment for the safety of our students, staff, and community. Lillian Rabenold created the newest ceiling tile to add to Mrs. Kirkwood’s Social Studies classroom. Lillian’s tile depicts the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To date there have been 8 tiles created each depicting a part of the 6th and or 8th grade curriculums taught in the Millersburg Middle School. Topics painted on tiles include: the Underground Railroad, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the American Revolution, the Roman Colosseum, the pyramids of Egypt, the signing of the Declaration of Independence and a nod to the local history of Millersburg. Great job Lillian and to all the talented students who have contributed to the Tile of History project!
