“Just Keep Reading” was this year’s Literacy night theme held at Lenkerville Elementary School during Read Across America Week. Millersburg faculty, staff, and students helped transform Lenkerville hallways into a magical underwater scene. Elementary students were so excited to swim through the hallways to get to their activities. Over 200 students attended with their families, which was an even bigger turnout than last year! Students participated in Book Bingo, visited the Book Fair, had ocean creatures painted on their faces, listened to “George Changes His Tune” read and illustrated by Lenkerville’s art teacher, Ms. Hoffman, and written by retired teacher Mr. Bowling. They also heard ocean themed stories, made various crafts like turtles, fish and more.
The week started with a visit from The Cat in the Hat and The Grinch handing out bookmarks to all students. Activities were also held the following day with crafts and stories by high school students. All elementary students received a book, and prize donations were given out to many lucky winners.
We want to thank everyone for their continued support. We couldn’t do it without the school and communities’ help and donations! Teachers would like to encourage students and families to “Just Keep Reading” throughout the spring and summer and make it a part of their daily activities.
