We are continuing to move forward with meetings between the candidates and our administrators and teachers. We expect to complete the entire interview process in early May, and move toward a final analysis of the candidates. When we have reached a final decision, we will inform the community and provide opportunities for everyone to meet the selected candidate. We will also begin a more formalized entry plan process as the new superintendent transitions into MIllersburg. We are excited about the opportunity to select a fine individual to lead our district!

Superintendent Search Update to the Millersburg Staff and Community

We are writing to provide the staff and community with an update on the search for Millersburg's next superintendent. The Board has been involved in a series of search-related activities over the last three months. In February, just after the application period closed, we met as a board with our consultant to review the resumes and select candidates to participate in first-round interviews. Those sessions featured several well-qualified, dedicated educational leaders. We asked questions covering a series of topics, from academic achievement and school finance to community engagement and developing a vision for the future of Millersburg. 

From there, we took a closer look at a smaller group of candidates to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and leadership abilities. We are now providing an opportunity for our administrators and a group of teachers to meet with candidates in the coming days. At the conclusion of these sessions, we will discuss all of our options, including a continued assessment of all the candidates with whom we engaged during this process.  

We are committed to finding a great leader for Millersburg by taking a deliberate, thoughtful approach. We understand that the superintendent plays a crucial role in influencing the educational experience for our students. Therefore, we are focused on selecting a leader with the skills, competencies, and the core values needed to effectively serve the students, staff, families, and community of Millersburg for the foreseeable future. We greatly appreciate the outstanding work Dr. Toth is doing as our acting superintendent.

The Millersburg Area School District has begun the process of searching for its next superintendent. Located in a beautiful rural setting within 30 minutes of Harrisburg (the state capitol), Millersburg seeks a versatile leader who embraces a small school environment and has the character and skills to design a system that provides a high-quality education for approx. 725 students. The leadership qualities the district is seeking in the next superintendent include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • An understanding, and experience with, curriculum design and educational leadership;

  • The procurement/utilization of current technology that will drive high expectations for all students;  

  • An understanding of construction and building projects;

  • Maintaining visibility in community and throughout the district, and displaying an approachability that encourages engagement and relationship-building;  

  • Thoughtful innovation and willing to explore various strategies to addressing the district's educational and operational issues;   

  • A data-informed approach that appreciates the use of analytics to measure the performance of the system;  

  • An ability to collaborate on the development and execution of district policies, a clear vision and goals, working in partnership with the board of school directors;

  • The understanding and knowledge to bring a creative, yet rigorous approach to school budgeting and finance;  

  • The ability to build productive relationships with administrators and staff, and;

  • Strong communication skills that will engage and inform the school community effectively.
